  • SOCO Church in Bentonville held a drive-through Thanksgiving meal bag event on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and provided 500 meals to struggling families—Executive Pastor Jared Carter noted the church had served 250 to 300 meals each year since 2020, feeding over 2,500 people.  4029 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A convenience store in Springdale sold for $4.3 million with Maverik operating under a long-term lease, while Bentonville-based Walmart is negotiating to acquire startup R&A Data to screen online products; the Arkansas Index closed Tuesday 47.51 points higher at 972.90 amid investor optimism ahead of potential rate adjustments.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Records show the Bentonville Farmers Market reached $3 million in sales this year, a 3.4% rise from last year's $2.9 million according to Downtown Bentonville Inc.; the market runs outdoors on Saturdays from April to October and indoors from Nov. 1 to March 21+supported by local and major sponsors.  NWA Business Journal
  • The Simmons family and employees of Simmons Foods donated $1 million yesterday to UA’s Land of Opportunity Scholarship campaign. The gift established the Simmons Family Foundation endowment—placing the donors among the Leaders of Arkansas Founders’ Circle who pledge at least $1 million to support students statewide.  NWA Business Journal
  • Fayetteville-based Washington Regional Medical System hired new doctors to serve in its emergency department and to lead its infection prevention program. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas State Broadband Office’s proposal to use $305 million in federal funds to bring high-speed internet to more than 79,000 underserved Arkansans was approved by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration Tuesday—cost-cutting changes reduced the funding by $3 million, dropped three providers, and narrowed service areas. The plan now awaits further federal and state approvals before project work begins in the second quarter.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tom and Karen Mowry biked along Arkansas 43 on Oct. 8 from Boxley to Ponca on the Buffalo National River while low water flow made river travel slow—prompting riders to choose the calm, scenic land route.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Bentonville West prep basketball teams did well last week when the boys beat Searcy 49+41 and the girls won 82+20, while other local teams like Farmington and Fort Smith Northside also earned wins. In college play, John Brown edged College of the Ozarks 78+76 with a buzzer-beater free throw, and Bentonville’s boys cross country placed fifth at the NXR South Regional Championships in Texas with senior Brian Burns finishing fourth.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The University of Arkansas women's basketball team never trailed as they won 79-72 over Drake in Nashville Tuesday — they built an early lead and maintained strong defense throughout the game.
