  • Tiffany Lee and Danny Cassidy volunteered at the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank in Lowell, where they joined local volunteers Ron and Katelyn in packing 16-pound boxes of black beans for agencies that deliver meals to families in need. Taylor Speegle said the food bank can host up to 200 volunteers a day—showing how community help supports neighbors during the holiday season.  5 News
  • Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry transforms donated deer into protein-rich meals for local food banks and schools—director Ronnie Ritter said each deer provides about 120 servings and urged hunters to choose the donation option when buying their hunting licenses. The nonprofit hopes to boost donations from 3,000 to 4,000 this season to help ease food insecurity.  5 News

  • Springdale-based 7 Brew Coffee inked a deal with an investment group to open about 100 new drive-thru locations on the East Coast in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.   • Northwest Arkansas National Airport reported its average round-trip fare was $442.95 compared to Tulsa’s $435.94 (a $7.01 difference) based on BTS data, marking the smallest gap in its history. Enplanements increased by 12.36% from last year, and the airport said security checkpoints and air traffic control have not faced delays during the ongoing government shutdown (no significant disruptions were reported).  NWA Business Journal
  • American Airlines cut its daily flights from Dallas to Northwest Arkansas due to the government shutdown—reducing its schedule from 10 to 8 flights—and the FAA lowered air traffic by 10% in 40 high-volume markets starting Friday morning.  4029 News

  • Today, local musicians John Jeter from Fort Smith and Jesse Welles from Bentonville received Grammy nominations; Jeter is up for Best Classical Instrumental Solo for his recording of a Florence Price concerto — Welles earned four nods in Americana and folk categories, with the awards set for Feb. 1.  5 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Tyson Foods chairman John Tyson said that food insecurity is growing in Northwest Arkansas as more people move to the area. He said his company will keep donating trucks of meat to the food bank—where a pack room turns bulk meat into meals—while working with Walmart and others to help families.  4029 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two meteor showers will peak over Arkansas soon — the Northern Taurids will be visible Tuesday, November 11 in the southeastern sky with occasional bright fireballs and the Leonids will appear after 2 a.m. on November 16 into November 17 in the eastern sky near Leo — offering clear opportunities for stargazers.  4029 News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A local gardening expert explained that two window planter boxes with impatiens were treated differently after deer chewed them in mid-July—one under an air conditioning drip received extra water and showed darker green leaves compared with the other box.   • In Hot Springs, Lilly Beshears led the Mounties to win the Class 6A Girls State Cross Country Championship on November 7 after barely crossing the finish line and struggling to maintain her balance—she finished in 17:29.45.
