ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local HVAC and energy experts advise Bentonville homeowners to check their heating systems and insulation before winter to lower energy bills and prevent breakdowns. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is directing $500,000 from Restricted Reserve funds to six food bank networks today to help address the government shutdown that halted SNAP benefits. She said she will consider additional weekly funding if the shutdown continues.  4029 News
  • Springdale officials say that Northwest Arkansas will choose buses over trains for public transit because buses cost less to run—officials note that the change may save money. They plan to add new bus routes along main corridors in the coming months—efforts intended to improve local travel.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • University of Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green was injured during Saturday’s game against Mississippi State but left under his own power and was not taken to a hospital—his health will be examined over the next few weeks.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The 5NEWS sports team is partnering with Yarnell's Premium Ice Cream to showcase local high school football plays for week nine. Fans can vote for the best play until Tuesday, Nov 4 at 3 p.m.—the winning booster club will get a $200 donation.  5 News
  • Arkansas men's basketball will start its season at 6 p.m. today at Walton Arena against Southern. Coach Calipari's team won two exhibition games and will soon face No. 22 Michigan State — setting the stage for a competitive season.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas Razorbacks lost to Mississippi State after scoring only 35 points on 433 total yards—penalties and unsportsmanlike conduct hurt their play in the fourth quarter.
