  • Pack Rat Outdoor Center in Fayetteville reports that bear spray sales have tripled after two deadly bear attacks—one that killed a 70-year-old man and another that killed a camper. AGFC is still searching for the bear, and many new hikers are buying safety gear to stay secure—experts advise keeping food sealed to avoid attracting bears.  5 News

  • Arkansas running back Mike Washington has shown marked improvement after an early stumble and posted strong rushing numbers in recent games—Coach Petrino said his sharper vision and speed will help boost the Razorback attack.   • Prep volleyball on Thursday saw the Lady Pointers defeat Alma 25-9, 25-11, 25-13 to finish at 17-7-1 and earn a state tournament spot as they play Hot Springs Lakeside on Monday at 6 p.m. In prep basketball, local teams including Deer, Jasper and Valley Springs won key matchups as Deer claimed victories in both girls and boys contests.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
