- ➤ Bentonville startup Sober Sidekick was named a finalist for the Kraft Prize for Excellence and Innovation in Community Health with its peer-led app aimed at reducing relapse rates in substance use treatment. The prize finalists were chosen from nearly 150 nationwide applications—Sober Sidekick and Mae received $10,000 each while St. Louis-based ThriveLink won $100,000. NWA Business Journal
- ➤ Lauren Blanco, co-founder and CEO of Markham & Fitz, will move to Brooklyn in early October while keeping a fractional CEO role to boost the chocolate business nationally. Anders Olsen is promoted to director of operations to lead local efforts in Bentonville as the company grows. NWA Business Journal
- ➤ Northwest Arkansas Council’s Onward FX program will bring entrepreneurs to Little Rock on October 29 and 30 for pre-arranged meetings and curated sessions with over 24 investment groups. Officials say the event will help local startups access capital for growth—strengthening business opportunities in the region. NWA Business Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Northwest Arkansas Land Trust announced that 62 acres on Beaver Lake in the Sonora community is under a conservation easement donated by Jacklyn Perry Ryan to protect the lake’s clean drinking water and local farmland. The Beaver Water District contributed funds for source water protection so the property remains agricultural and safeguarded against future development — including the Highway 412 East Bypass. - ➤ A section of Southeast 10th Street is closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Oct. 17 for work on the Thaden Elementary School Project—set to add five acres to the campus—while Southeast Second Street is reduced to a one-lane flagging work zone from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until Oct. 10 for electric relocation work with possible weather delays. - ➤ Bentonville’s Lady Tigers won a 3-0 match over Fayetteville’s Lady Purple Bulldogs on Tuesday at Tiger Arena (25-22, 25-23, 25-22). Both coaches (Hannah Berry and Jessica Phelan) said the early momentum proved key to the win. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ The University of Arkansas football team scored 28 points in the first half of each of its opening four games but struggled in the second half with turnovers and lower scores in losses to Ole Miss and Memphis—Coach Pittman said the team must improve its play to close games.
