GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local immigrant rights groups in Bentonville advised residents to carry yellow cards when dealing with immigration officers after Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced on Sept. 9 that the National Guard would provide unarmed support to ICE by handling administrative tasks — a move activists say calls for caution even though no mass raids are expected.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Bentonville Parks and Recreation announced that Dave Peel Park will close temporarily Monday, September 22 as construction begins on a $12.2 million project to add a modern playground, native gardens, an amphitheater, and more at this two-acre park near Bentonville Square—formerly known as Jaycees Park. A groundbreaking event is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22 to mark the start of the upgrades.  City of Bentonville
  • Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced on Friday that Taiwanese agricultural groups signed letters of intent to buy at least $5.56 billion in U.S. crops (a deal she described as great news for local row crop farmers).  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced on Sept. 9 that the Arkansas National Guard would assist ICE by providing up to 40 unarmed guardsmen for administrative and logistical tasks around the state—deployments include Little Rock, Fayetteville and other locations. Local immigrant rights groups advised residents to carry Know Your Rights cards to be ready if they encounter authorities and to know the proper steps to take.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Bentonville completed the first phase of a $17.8 million renovation at Phillips Park—featuring seven new baseball fields, a concession stand, a restroom facility, a parking lot and a maintenance building. Construction began in October 2023 and the grand opening was held on Sept. 12.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Former Arkansas coach Danny Ford warned the Razorbacks to buckle up for today's 11 a.m. kickoff against Memphis at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium—he said Memphis will play hard as a giant-killer while Coach Sam Pittman and his team prepare to face the Tigers' shifting defense.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Benton Harmony Grove beat Jessieville 41-0 at Everett Stadium on Friday night when a strong passing drive in the second and third quarters helped the Cardinals secure the shutout—Coach Josh Smith praised the offense and defense for their hard work—while the team played with great focus.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The NW Arkansas Championship now features the fully autonomous Robot Range Picker from Automation Hub at Pinnacle Country Club—this device collects 2,400 golf balls per run and 90,000 daily to boost efficiency in the tournament.  4029 News
