- ➤ A slate of outdoor events is scheduled in our region, including a volunteer plant pull at Lost Valley this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to remove invasive stiltgrass — a World Championship Squirrel Cookoff in Springdale starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 13, a free youth quail hunt in Benton County on Sept. 20, and a Beaver Big Bass Tournament at Beaver Lake on Sept. 21 with cash prizes. Other activities include a Beaver Lake volunteer day on Sept. 27, new hours and programs at Hunt Family Nature Center, water quality training at Fort Smith and Springdale on Oct. 22–23, school trip volunteering at Hobbs State Park, a grass carp removal contest in Bella Vista with monthly cash draws, a 2025 Grand Slam Award fishing contest, and corporate outdoor team building at Coler Mountain Bike Preserve.
