BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bentonville nonprofit Ozark Foundation has taken over the Rural Recreational Roads R3 program from Runway Group—positioning it for statewide expansion with a new focus on community engagement and road safety for cyclists. Bobby Finster from Cave City will lead the effort as the program grows.  NWA Business Journal
  • Farmers & Merchants Bank named Greg Connell president and CEO on August 26 after Brad Chambless stepped down for health and family reasons. Connell, who has served as a board member since 2008, will lead the bank as it celebrates 80 years of community banking.  NWA Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed an executive order Tuesday that approved $6 million for hazard mitigation programs in Arkansas during the fiscal year 2026—state officials say the plans will help limit future disaster damage.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Bentonville City Council voted Tuesday to keep the bike mural 'All Bike(r)s Welcome' after artist Paige Dirksen agreed to change the text, image, and title to remove corporate references—addressing concerns raised by residents. Officials then closed all active complaints after nearly three hours of discussion.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • On August 26, the Bentonville City Council voted to accept a grant up to $3,538,831 for constructing two new bridges and rerouting part of the Razorback Greenway to restore the safe link with Bella Vista that has been closed for more than three years due to flood damage. The Parks and Recreation Department will begin construction in October and complete the project by October next year—providing a resilient route for cyclists and pedestrians.  City of Bentonville

  • University of Arkansas freshman Grayson Wilson enrolled early in January to start his college football career as a Razorback quarterback after transferring from Central Arkansas Christian to Conway. The Little Rock native, rated as one of the top prospects, is learning a tough playbook and overcoming a past shoulder injury as he prepares for his upcoming season—coaches say his progress could boost the team.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • After three straight state title losses, the Bentonville Tigers look to reverse their fortunes by fielding a new offensive line and new starting quarterback—head coach Jody Grant said the team will try to limit mistakes as they open their season on the road at Union in Tulsa Friday night.  5 News
