ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Last week in Rogers, a Bella Vista woman was killed and two others were hurt in a two-vehicle crash—one of the injured is a Bentonville resident and a juvenile driver was involved. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Rogers psychiatrist Dr. Brian Hyatt, facing felony charges and over 150 civil lawsuits, was involuntarily committed for up to 45 days for mental health treatment—his doctors said he was gravely disabled and a danger to himself or others. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Most trails at Devil’s Den State Park reopened this week except for the Butterfield and Devil’s Den trails— the Butterfield trail remains closed due to storm damage and the Devil’s Den trail is under review— following the fatal July 26 stabbing of two hikers while a 28-year-old suspect from Springdale pleaded not guilty to capital murder. - ➤ Most trails at Devil’s Den State Park reopened after being closed for weeks following the killing of two hikers near West Fork while walking with their children—only the Butterfield Trail stays closed due to storm damage and the Devil’s Den Trail remains closed for further review as the accused awaits a Nov. 14 court date. - ➤ After nearly a year of negotiations, XNA’s board approved a plan to set the detachment deadline at December 31—ensuring full repayment of past city bonds while both parties still must formally agree. The Highfill City Council held a special meeting on August 18 to consider the proposal. 5 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Alice L. Walton Foundation and Mercy and Washington Regional are giving $3 million to expand the nurse anesthetist program at UAMS Northwest in Fayetteville, which will start this fall and add 18 students over five years to meet rising local needs—especially at small hospitals. The program will use targeted recruitment, digital health options and new clinical training partnerships to boost local care—helping more people get quality anesthesia services. - ➤ UAMS Northwest in Fayetteville will launch a nurse anesthetist program this fall with $3 million in funding from the Alice L.
