  • Local churches have announced many upcoming events such as Bible studies, prayer meetings, fitness classes and concerts; notable dates include Aug. 3 for a Sonday Riders ride, Aug. 10 for the 'Blessing the Backpacks' event, and Aug. 24 for a men's chorus concert—more meetings and classes will continue into September.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bentonville officials announced that utility line work will cause road closures along Southeast B Street throughout August. Motorists should expect traffic delays during the month.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • A non-profit organ procurement agency filed a challenge in federal court against a new state law that allows families to reverse an organ donor's wishes. The law amends the Arkansas Revised Anatomical Gift Act and is set to go into effect next week & the challenge will determine if next-of-kin can override the donor's decision.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • The City of Bentonville, in partnership with Northwest Health and the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, will host the annual blood drive on Tuesday, August 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Northwest Medical Center and Bentonville Fire Station 1—donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment to reduce wait times.  City of Bentonville

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • AGFC has doubled its dove hunting fields from three to six — adding new opportunities near Fayetteville and in Franklin County — and applications have been open since August 1 with hunts set to begin on September 6. The commission also released River to Ridge, a comprehensive guidebook for outdoor enthusiasts, and launched the Legacy Lunker Program that will allow anglers to donate trophy largemouth bass from January 1 to March 31 for a chance at prizes.  5 News
