  • Back by popular demand, Pickin’ on the Square returned to the Bentonville square on Thursday as local musicians played guitar+fiddle+banjo for a revived community gathering. CRIME NEWS

  • Seven people were arrested in Northwest Arkansas on Thursday and Friday for crimes including drug trafficking, assault, and failure to register as a sex offender—bonds ranged from no bond to $50,000.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Sweet Magnolia will perform in Fayetteville soon and share new songs that blend New Orleans brass with pop sensibilities+ the set features themes of a fictional summer romance, an attic full of ghosts and a noisy neighbor who wakes her with his records, following their impactful performance last year.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art hosts the 'Ruth Asawa: Retrospective' exhibit, which features more than 300 works by the influential artist who spent time in an Arkansas internment camp in the early 1940s. Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville holds three of her works, but they are not on display—art lovers may visit SFMOMA to view her legacy until Sept. 2.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State laws passed this year will take effect Tuesday and include merging the Arkansas School for the Blind and the Arkansas School for the Deaf into one school for the deaf and blind, renaming several state departments, transferring the Arkansas Wine Producers Council to tourism, increasing accident report fees, and allowing the Arkansas Development Finance Authority to operate independently — changes aimed at modernizing government functions. An overhaul of the executive branch pay plan for more than 22,000 state employees took effect today — further updates may follow as the state adapts to these changes.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
