COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Rogers-based Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter, Bentonville’s only domestic violence shelter, faces a 65% cut in federal and state funding and is launching the Restoring Hope Campaign to raise $540,000—while a fundraiser called Hope in One takes place today at Golf Mountain Mini Golf in Lowell starting at 4 p.m. It provides 30-day emergency services to around 400 individuals and outreach to 2,000 in the community.  5 News
  • The 81st Rodeo of the Ozarks opened Wednesday in Springdale—featuring four themed nights with Faith and Family, Hispanic Heritage, Tough Enough to Wear Pink and Military Tribute—before gates opened at 6 p.m. and the main show started at 7:30, with proceeds supporting local nonprofits and student scholarships.  4029 News

  • A Beard Award finalist opened a new restaurant in Bentonville today to bring a fresh dining option to the community +the original Loblolly in Little Rock placed eighth on USA Today's list of 10 best indie ice cream shops across the U.S.+.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Tontitown-based Central States Inc. has launched its Board and Batten metal siding with a Galvalume base and various finishes (six textured paint colors and three digitally-printed woodgrain options) that improves building looks and durability and is now available at all manufacturing and Metal Central locations.  NWA Business Journal
  • University of Arkansas experts, with support from the DOE, released a cybersecurity tool called V-INT that helps energy utilities check their system security and run attack simulations. Bentonville-based Bastazo is leading the rollout & integrating V-INT with commercial platforms after receiving nearly $487,250 in project funding.  NWA Business Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rogers will reforest an area along the Razorback Greenway that lost over 50 mature trees during the May 26, 2024 tornado using native plant species funded by a $20,000 grant from Black Hills Energy. The Rogers Parks and Recreation Department leads the project—work will begin immediately and finish by the end of the year.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Tim Griffin announced on Wednesday that Arkansas will receive $44.5 million from a nationwide opioid settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family for their role in the opioid crisis. The funds will be paid in equal yearly installments until 2040—supporting prevention and treatment programs through the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Four-star defensive tackle Danny Beale III from Cross County High School committed to Oklahoma State after officially visiting the Cowboys, Ole Miss — and North Carolina while skipping an official trip to Arkansas despite several unofficial visits in Fayetteville.
