ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Bella Vista police said Angelina Cesena, 39, died when her vehicle crashed into a large tree on Highland Road after she sped away from officers following a 911 call about a suspected intoxicated driver on Sunday around 8:20 p.m.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Shawn Duncan, aged 57, died in Rogers after he collided with a car when he rode through a red light — he had been in hospital since his crash on June 7.  4029 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gary Vernon is the new general manager of OZ Trails Bike Park in Bella Vista effective immediately—he will direct work on a nearly 200-acre park with more than 20 miles of trails and a high-speed chairlift—and the park is set to open in 2026.  NWA Business Journal
  • Walmart Inc. agreed to pay $10 million to settle federal charges that allowed scammers to use its money transfer services to steal from customers—Walmart does not admit wrongdoing. The settlement requires the company to improve fraud prevention measures—steps meant to help protect customers from future scams.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Walmart is inviting entrepreneurs and small businesses to join its business membership and Grow with Us program that offers free training, mentorship, and tailored resources. Bentonville-based Airship Coffee said Walmart's support and data analytics helped it expand operations and plan delivery routes — signaling the retailer’s strong commitment to local supplier success.  NWA Business Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Arkansas' seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 3.7% in May as nonfarm payroll jobs rose by 3,400 to a record 1,388,500 and labor force participation increased by 0.2% from last year — state officials noted that this compares favorably to the national 4.2%.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bentonville City Council voted 8-0 Tuesday to approve an ordinance that will raise electrical rates for residential and commercial customers with changes effective on bills due on or after August 1—this means the usual 5% fee will be shown separately and several monthly charges will adjust for different customer groups. The council also tabled a resolution for a five-year waste collection agreement with CARDS NWA, LLC and will discuss the plan again on July 8.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
