GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families reported that the state ranked 45th in child well-being, with data showing 144,000 children in poverty, 3,000 low-birthweight births, 50,000 without health insurance, 300 child deaths and 2,500 teen births along with 53,000 children in food-insecure households. The group warned that potential federal cuts to Medicaid and SNAP will force lawmakers to make tough choices—risking greater hardship for low-income families if no new investments are made. - ➤ After the March storms hurt parts of North Arkansas, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the state will cover 35% of rebuilding costs while local leaders like Cave City's Mayor Jonas Anderson warned that the remaining 65% will stretch small budgets.
