CRIME NEWS

  • Ex-police chief Grant Hardin escaped from North Central Unit prison on May 25 by changing into a makeshift law enforcement uniform and walking out the gate but was caught near Moccasin Creek Friday—authorities are now probing how he planned the escape.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • The inaugural Ozark Music Festival debuts in Northwest Arkansas with 13 public concerts—featuring college musicians, university faculty and major orchestras—at venues in Bentonville, Fayetteville and Springdale starting Wednesday. The festival includes both free and ticketed events at locations like Fayetteville’s Cultural Arts Corridor, the Fayetteville Public Library Event Center and Faulkner Performing Arts Center.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • BANDALOOP performed their newest work FLOCK at The Momentary in Bentonville on Friday and continued live aerial shows on Saturday—featuring a performance inspired by migratory birds and live music to engage the local audience.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Steven Porter said senior Sydney Hopper led the Bentonville Tigers with 15 goals and 10 assists as the team won its third straight state championship, 10 overall titles, and 19 wins this season—she also played overseas for Indonesia before rejoining for a season opener that ended in a 9 to 0 win.   Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Arkansas baseball team beat Tennessee by a score of four to three on Saturday to take a one to zero lead in game one of the NCAA Fayetteville Super Regional at Baum-Walker Stadium.
