CRIME NEWS

  • Grant Hardin, who escaped on May 25 at 2:55 p.m. from a prison in Calico Rock after serving a long sentence for murder and rape, has reopened old wounds for victims and set Benton County law enforcement on high alert—searching for him in the area.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Rogers woman Ravonne John said a fraudster used an RFID scanner to steal her credit card information and make nearly $1,700 in unauthorized charges at local shops and fast-food restaurants — Rogers and Bentonville police are jointly investigating the case.  4029 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Smoke from Canadian wildfires has drifted into Arkansas, raising health risks for people with breathing problems (including seniors, children, and those with asthma). The National Weather Service said northwest winds brought the haze across the state and that winds will shift today to bring in less smoke.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Detroit center Frank Ragnow—a University of Arkansas star and four-time Pro Bowl selection—announced his retirement from the NFL last Monday after seven seasons, saying he no longer felt healthy enough to continue playing and thanking his team and fans for their support.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Razorbacks beat Creighton 8—3 late Sunday as Gage Wood struck out 13 batters and five players hit home runs in front of nearly 10,000 fans at Baum-Walker Stadium.
