COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local groups are hosting two nature walks today in Bentonville—one at Osage Park from 10 a.m. to noon by the Peel Compton Foundation and another at Casey’s from 8:30 to 9 a.m. with a $4 fee—while recent fishing tournaments and upcoming river cleanups, astronomy nights, fishing derbies and outdoor classes offer more ways for residents to enjoy local nature.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Residents can head to 1301 N. Dixieland Road as the Rogers Goodwill Resource Center and Outlet Store reopens at 9 a.m. today—one year after closing due to storm damage from an EF2 tornado. The reopening includes a brief ceremony, a two-minute Bins Bonanza for two shoppers, and food from KDK's Chicken and Waffles from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the center also resuming job services.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Bentonville — A Benton County circuit judge ordered a mental evaluation for a suspect accused of killing a Rogers man while his attorneys plan to raise mental disease or defect as a defense.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bentonville’s May sales tax revenue dropped 72.91% to $632,455 due to large rebates—its year-to-date receipts remained flat at $10.447 million while Fayetteville, Rogers and Springdale posted gains.  NWA Business Journal
  • Centerton will hold a public meeting this week (from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.) at the Centerton District Court building (210 Municipal Drive) to review updated plans for the Recreation Center as city officials present new designs for the project funded by approved bonds.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Crappie are starting to bite crank baits on Beaver Lake as muddy water clears, said local fishing guide Jon Conklin. He expects anglers to experience better fishing conditions soon.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Walton Family Foundation released a report on Tuesday, May 27, that shows housing challenges have grown in Northwest Arkansas since 2019—median multifamily rents rose nearly 50% and home prices increased about 70%. The report states the region now needs 9,300 new rental units for low-income households and warns that many subsidized homes could be lost by 2040.  NWA Business Journal
