COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today, Benton will try to break the world record for the longest Hot Wheels track by building a 2,700-foot course starting at the courthouse gazebo and winding along Sevier, Main, and South streets as part of Third Thursday. The track will be set up ahead of time at the courthouse with the street portion assembled at 5 p.m. and the car set to roll at 7 p.m. — officials hope the event brings a memorable, record-breaking day for the community. 5 News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At 11:34 a.m. Wednesday, a four-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 412 and Arkansas 59 in Siloam Springs resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries—police and sheriff’s officers assisted in managing traffic and clearing the scene. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ A federal jury in central Arkansas ordered Walmart to pay $222 million after a trial ended on May 13 because Zest Labs said that Walmart misused its trade secrets from working together between 2014 and 2017—changing from partner to competitor. Walmart denied the charges and said it would appeal the decision. NWA Business Journal
- ➤ Sam’s Club executives plan to double business in the next eight to ten years by adding 30 clubs in the next two years and remodeling all 600 clubs while switching to a digital system that uses the Scan — Go app in place of checkout stations. They will also use Walmart’s technology to boost online orders and renew strong membership growth as digital sales continue to rise. NWA Business Journal

- ➤ Bentonville High senior Mackenzie Maddry, who was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2020 and received a heart transplant in 2024, will soon graduate and plans to help others as a HeartMates ambassador & by sharing her story. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Bentonville seventh grader Madeleine Stokes won the Arkansas State Civics Bee Championship in Little Rock on Wednesday — she earned $1,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip for her and a parent to attend the National Civics Bee in Washington this fall. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bentonville announced several road closures and project extensions over the next week. Southeast B Street will be closed today through May 21 for construction with detours for pedestrians and bicyclists, the northbound lane of North Walton Boulevard will be closed Monday and Tuesday for fiber-optic work, Southeast Benton Street will remain closed daily until Monday for a school project, and work on Northeast A Street will continue through at least May 26 — affecting local travel. - ➤ Bentonville announced that Southeast B Street between Southeast Fourth and Southeast Sixth will be closed for construction related to a private development (7 a.m.–6 p.m. Thursday through May 21) and that the northbound curbside lane of North Walton Boulevard will be closed for fiber-optic installation (9 a.m.–4 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday). The city also extended closures on Southeast Benton Street—which will run daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Monday—and on Northeast A Street, where work will continue through at least May 26 for related projects.
