CRIME NEWS

  • A Siloam Springs man was jailed on a $150,000 bond—police said he posted threats on Facebook about the Dogwood Festival in Siloam Springs.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • A Siloam Springs man was jailed Tuesday on +$150,000 bond+ after police accused him of posting terrorist threats on Facebook about the Dogwood Festival.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Seven people were arrested in Northwest Arkansas over Saturday and Sunday for charges including fraudulent card use, domestic battering, battery, rape and aggravated assault on family members — the suspects from Bentonville, Lowell, Springdale, Huntsville and Siloam Springs are being held in county detention centers with bonds set as high as $15,000.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Visit Bentonville launched its new video podcast Dining Out in Bentonville which spotlights local restaurants and chefs—challenging each chef to create their own take on a grilled cheese sandwich. Chef Biju Thomas hosts the series that will release new episodes on the first Wednesday of every month, with the debut featuring Conifer chef Matt Cooper, a James Beard award nominee.  NWA Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bentonville West High School students won a national $100K award for making an app that uses a phone camera to find signs of oral cancer— they pitched the app in Washington, D.C. on April 28 and earned an extra $10K as the Employee Choice Winner.  5 News
  • David Patty was named the next president of Northwest Technical Institute on April 29 and is completing the hiring process—his salary will be set by the state pay scale. He brings 22 years of technical training experience from Tyson Foods and recently served as senior manager of automation at Schwan’s—experience that is expected to enhance the institute’s industrial training programs.  NWA Business Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bentonville High clinched the 6A-West Conference boys soccer championship when Brooks Gregg scored with 2.8 seconds left—his last-second goal gave the team a narrow 2-1 win over rival Bentonville West at the Tiger Athletic Complex on April 28.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Bentonville West won a 5 to 1 baseball game against Springdale Har-Ber on Monday as they began their 6A West Conference series with hopes of reaching the Class 6A State Tournament. The team used scoring breaks with key plays by Kadean Jacobs and Jonathan Veira while pitcher Will Geiger limited Har-Ber to three hits in a 99-pitch outing—Bentonville West will face Springdale Har-Ber again on Tuesday.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
