EDUCATION NEWS

  • John Brown University in Siloam Springs announced this fall it will launch a new professional flight program in partnership with Airo — a Springdale-based flight school at Springdale Municipal Airport. Up to 20 students will enroll in the program to earn pilot certifications and a business-focused liberal arts degree — steps aimed at meeting the rising demand for qualified pilots.  NWA Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed three acts on Wednesday that provided $575 million for water and sewer projects across Arkansas. In Bentonville, Mayor Stephanie Orman said the city is ready to submit shovel-ready projects to ease water rates after a 100% increase in April — Fort Smith officials said the funds could support upgrades required by their federal consent decree.  4029 News
  • Representative Steve Womack and HUD Secretary Scott Turner visited Bentonville High School on Tuesday—talking with students and reviewing plans for the McAuley Place project, which will create affordable housing for school staff and families. The project will include 120 apartments and cottages with fixed rents and a learning center as part of a local public-private partnership—set to finish by late 2026.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors at Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas in Rogers performed a robotic procedure last month to detect and remove a cancerous lung nodule in one session, cutting the typical four-week wait between diagnosis and treatment— a breakthrough that may improve survival for early-stage patients.  NWA Business Journal

  • Bentonville's boys soccer team routed Rogers Heritage 8-0 on Tuesday night—eight different players scored to help the Tigers extend their 11-game unbeaten streak.
