ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Bentonville Area Chamber of Commerce—formerly known as the Greater Bentonville Area Chamber of Commerce—unveiled its new branding at its annual meeting on April 9 and will launch a modern website soon. The chamber said its changes will help guide how local businesses connect and drive economic growth.  5 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NorthWest Arkansas Community College’s Board of Trustees approved a campus master plan to guide growth at its Bentonville campus for the next five to 20 years. The plan —designed by Lake Flato with support from the Walton Family Foundation— sets a framework for expanding academics, athletics, arts, housing, and public spaces.  NWA Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, April 14, the Arkansas House voted to bar social media platforms from using technology—algorithms or strategies designed to expose minors to an addictive feed.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Bentonville is updating its zoning and development codes to create a Unified Development Code that supports smart growth and sustainable neighborhoods in line with the Future Land Use Plan adopted in February. National firm DPZ CoDesign will lead community engagement events next week on April 17 and 18 to gather public input on the changes.  City of Bentonville
  • On Monday, the Arkansas Senate approved a bill to amend the Constitution to require citizen-initiated ballot titles be clear and no longer than 500 words — the measure now moves to further review.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Arkansas Senate approved a bill to eliminate the state's 0.125% sales tax on groceries—set to take effect Jan. 1, 2026—that now moves to the House for further review.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The House Committee on Education advanced a bill that would limit how much families can spend from voucher funds provided by the LEARNS Act on travel and extracurricular activities.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Food safety inspectors reviewed restaurants, schools and food facilities in Benton County from March 31 to April 4—finding issues like missing paper towels, unsafe food temperatures and expired permits while some places showed no problems.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Defensive tackle Carnell Jackson committed to the Razorbacks two days after an unofficial visit to Arkansas where he watched a scrimmage in Fayetteville. Jackson (6 feet 3 inches, 335 pounds) chose Arkansas over offers from South Florida, Tulane and others and will make an official visit from June 13 to 15.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
