ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A building under construction behind The Ledger (billed as the only bikeable building in the world when it opened in 2022) caught fire on Wednesday afternoon in downtown Bentonville and was under control by 3 p.m. with no injuries.  4029 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Online grocery sales increased by 21% in March to reach $9.7 billion and show steady growth since the pandemic began—Walmart led with a 25.7% market share while Amazon and Instacart followed closely. The report noted that promotional discounts and subscriptions helped boost delivery and store pickup orders over the past months.  NWA Business Journal
  • Arvest Bank executives announced winners of the Northwest Arkansas Outstanding Business Awards at a luncheon in Springdale on April 9. An independent panel of judges picked Bentonville-based Havenwood and mejo and Rogers-based PodcastVideos.com and Onyx Coffee Lab as winners.  NWA Business Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Last week, severe weather hit Northwest Arkansas with tornadoes, large hail, and heavy rain that helped fertilize crops and ease the drought in Benton County—though it also led to saturated soil and runoff. Local farm officials said farmers hope future rains come in smaller doses to support the ongoing planting season.  4029 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Road Department reopened two bridges in western Benton County—one on Mount Zion Road/Columbia Hollow and one on East Gaiche Road—that replace older unsafe structures. The new bridges cost about $947,000 and $500,000 respectively—both fully funded by Benton County.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • On Tuesday night, the City Council approved nine members of the Active Transportation Advisory Board. The board will begin meeting in May to gather public input and guide decisions on biking, walking and accessible transportation.  5 News
