BUSINESS NEWS

  • Retail data solutions provider Crisp acquired Seattle-based Shelf Engine, an artificial intelligence firm that helps retailers predict perishable food demand to reduce food waste—Crisp said some Shelf Engine employees may join its Northwest Arkansas office as the technology expands.  NWA Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Seven people were arrested in Benton County for charges including controlled substance possession, wire fraud, battery, and aggravated assault—each is held in county jail with no bond set.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Northwest Arkansas police arrested five people—Noah Parker, Joseph Tortorello, Frankie Mendoza, Saul Tovar, and Sarah Landers—in Fayetteville, Springdale, and Winslow on charges ranging from burglary and criminal mischief to battery, domestic battering and drug-related offenses.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • John Brown University and Airo partnered to launch a new 4-year program that will give students a degree & a pilot's license starting Fall 2025. Up to 20 students will receive business-focused liberal arts classes and full flight training at Springdale Municipal Airport.  5 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Benton County Water Department and Bentonville Fire are standing by to respond to heavy weekend rains that could cause fast flooding, and the Road Department has installed flood control boxes and upgraded pipes to manage the expected water buildup—officials advise everyone to stay clear of flood waters.  4029 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission is asking the public for input on Forward2050, a 25-year transportation plan to update the region’s system as it nears a population of 1 million by 2050. Open houses will be held on April 9 at Fayetteville Public Library — and on April 10 at Bentonville Public Library from 4 to 7 p.m. as officials work to replace the previous plan required every five years.  NWA Business Journal
  • The Arkansas House Revenue and Taxation Committee approved a bill on Thursday to eliminate the state's 0.125% grocery tax—this change will take effect on Jan. 1, 2026.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas emergency officials are monitoring severe storms that caused damage on Wednesday in the northeast and are preparing to respond to further issues today. The Arkansas National Guard and state teams are on standby with 42 soldiers stationed in Mountain Home and Jonesboro—ready to deploy if flooding or more damage occurs.  4029 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas infielder Wehiwa Aloy was named to the Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list—an honor for the best amateur baseball player in the country. He has played 30 games at shortstop for the Razorbacks and led his team with extra-base hits while his performance places him among 45 top players under consideration ahead of the May 18 semifinalist announcement.  5 News
