CRIME NEWS

  • A Sebastian County man from Bonanza pleaded not guilty to charges of negligent homicide and leaving the scene after his truck struck motorcycle rider William Campbell on Tennessee Ridge Road on March 17—Campbell was flown to a Northwest Arkansas hospital and later died from his injuries.  4029 News
  • Bentonville police say a Rogers man broke into his parents' home early Monday and fired his crossbow twice at his mother, striking her in the head before fleeing the scene and later being arrested in Barry County—she was taken to a local emergency room with life threatening injuries.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Bentonville police said Monday that 29-year-old Joseph Michael Alexander broke into his parents’ home on Linebarger Lane and fired a crossbow at his mother, who received life-threatening head injuries from two arrows; he was later apprehended by Stone County Sheriff's Office and faces charges of attempted capital murder, aggravated residential burglary, interference with emergency communications and domestic battery—he is expected to be extradited to Benton County.  4029 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Bentonville School District will hold a celebration for former principal Jack Loyd on April 1 at 6 p.m. at Arend Arts Center in Bentonville to honor his long service and legacy after his passing on March 20—students, families and staff are asked to wear black and gold as his memory is further commemorated by a new memorial scholarship for high school students pursuing postsecondary education.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Highfill Mayor Chris Holland said airport officials used bait-and-switch tactics—Northwest Arkansas National Airport CEO Aaron Burkes said that Holland was chasing a deal with terms that were never agreed on.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Inspections from March 10 to March 14 found several restaurants in Benton County did not meet food safety standards—issues included improper food storage, expired permits, and improper temperature controls—that can increase the risk of foodborne illness. Officials reported violations at multiple sites in Bentonville, Rogers and Lowell.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Arkansas Department of Health confirmed there are no measles cases in the state, yet over 50 counties have vaccination rates below 95%, so Dr. Robert Hopkins at UAMS urged residents to get the vaccine because measles can cause pneumonia and weaken the immune system—one dose gives about 94% protection and two doses increases it to roughly 97%.  5 News
