ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a severe crash on Tuesday near the busy 14th Street intersection left a cyclist with life-threatening injuries, city officials and cycling advocates said Bentonville will soon begin infrastructure upgrades—like a tunnel to separate bikes from 34,000 daily vehicles—to help reduce fatal accidents.  5 News

  • The Arkansas Trucking Association praised the Legislature for passing bills that fight organized retail crime and boost penalties for cargo theft—steps that may help protect trucking jobs.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Walmart Inc. stock is falling this month as uncertainty over tariffs + a general market downturn weakens investor confidence. Analysts say the current economic challenges will continue to pressure share prices in the coming weeks.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NWACC Board of Trustees approved a new master plan for campus expansion in Bentonville on Tuesday; the plan—developed with input from students, staff and community members—could expand the campus from 500,000 square feet to up to five times that size with support from the Walton Family Foundation's Northwest Arkansas Design Excellence Program.  5 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bentonville officials approved a water rate increase earlier this month that will add about $25 to residents' bills as the city fights water loss from hundreds of leaks—repair work continues on an eight-month-old leak in Rebekah Coffey's neighborhood. Local resident Kyle Miller started a petition to reverse the increase—warning it may hurt local businesses and fuel inflation and hopes to gather enough signatures by the April 8 council meeting.  4029 News
  • Congressman Steve Womack chairs the THUD subcommittee and will steer spending in his district by pushing for upgrades to Highway 412, I-49, safer air traffic control, and more affordable housing — his interview airing this Sunday will explain how these projects aim to deliver a strong return on investment for Northwest Arkansas.  NWA Business Journal
  • The Joint Budget Committee approved a bill on March 20th that will enact Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders' proposed overhaul of the pay plan for executive branch employees—this change will update salary structures for state workers.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
