The Arkansas Farm Bureau launched the Farm Trail Passport program on March 15—allowing consumers to visit 22 local farms, including sites in Alma and Gentry, and get one stamp per farm with a purchase.
Passports must be stamped by November 30 and mailed by December 5 to win prizes such as T-shirts, a rain gauge, a $25 gift card, a cooler, or a custom-made fire pit for the first three submissions.
Local museums, libraries and parks in Northwest Arkansas are hosting a variety of events in the coming weeks—Berryville Public Library offers free seed packets through May, Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park runs historic tours and nature journaling classes, and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute has classes on property taxes, cycling and UFO history. Additional programs include the Adult Speaker Series at Bella Vista Public Library on March 26th, story times at the Museum of Native American History on the last Saturday each month, a Construction Career Day on April 9th, a Dickson Street Pup Crawl on April 26th and new National Register listings announced by the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program.
On Wednesday, at least 90 engineers, planners, mayors and city council members met in Springdale to explain that the many paved surfaces and roofs cause rainwater to quickly run off+ leading to stormwater issues across Northwest Arkansas.
They urged local leaders to adopt improved management plans to reduce flooding risks.
Centerton City Council approved one-time impact fees for new residential and nonresidential developments at a 6—0 vote last Tuesday after builders raised concerns that led to reduced fees; the decision followed months of discussion on the revised proposals.
The Razorback men's basketball team will play in the NCAA Tournament under first-year coach John Calipari— they are a 10 seed in the West Region and will face Kansas in the first round in Providence.
